That Smarts
Hope you're well and enjoying hints of summer. Summertime can mean more dining out and less cooking in. But consider this fun fact first...
Turns out, scientists believe we can chalk up human intelligence to cooking! Yes, cooking! Stay with me. With the advent of controlled fire used by Homo erectus approximately 1,000,000 years ago, our species began to cook. The more we cooked, the easier it was to digest. Over time, our bodies shortened our digestive tracks and shifted that energy toward growing our brains, leading to Homo sapiens' intelligence today.
I believe this is why I find cooking to be primal and food so fascinating. I share this enthusiasm during my cooks to help my students find joy in instinctual cooking, rather than seeing it as a chore. Cooking is simply part of our DNA.
Where’d I hear such a thing anyway? Yuval Noah Harari who wrote Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. I'm so hooked. Listening to it on Audible and trying to use my big brain to soak it all up. Highly recommend it to connect to who we truly are.
Join me to tap into your primal cooking instincts over a roaring, yet controlled, fire with my upcoming class, Grillin' & Chillin', THIS Tuesday, 6/8, 4-6pm, on Zoom with recording live for 7 days. Sharpen your grill skills, eat tons of plants and some non-plant protein if you wish, and enjoy garden-fresh clean cocktails or mocktails! Click to see the menu and sign up! Fun cocktail pics below. Like summer in a cup!
